When you are on the market trying to buy the right tent, you can come across hundreds of different models. However, many people will tend to purchase a tent that boasts comfort and space rather than safety and security. When looking to buy a tent, particularly when you camp out in harsh conditions, choosing a tent with the right fabric can make all the difference.
When you go to your local camping equipment shop you will be presented with a number of different tent materials ranging from polyester, cotton canvas, nylon and others. These materials will all feel different and they will often have different weights. The main factors you should be looking out for are the water resistance of the material, the weight, durability to windy conditions and fire protection. The trick is to find a well-balanced material that can protect you in harsh conditions. A cotton canvas tent, for example, is quite durable, but it is not waterproof. Here are two of the best fabrics you should look out for:
This might seem like a material best suited for outdoor clothing and not as a tent fabric. However, if you are willing to spend a bit extra, rip-stop nylon is an ideal fabric for a tent. This form of nylon is very tough because the material is interwoven and reinforced to prevent it from getting ripped easily. Not only is this material incredibly durable when dealing with harsh conditions, it is a great material for a tent because it is light and easy to set up. The rip-stop nylon material is particularly good for conditions out in the woods where your tent can face damage from branches and debris.
If you are unable to get a hold of a rip-stop nylon tent, a polyester tent is a great alternative. It is a particularly common fabric for a tent, but with good reason. The polyester fabric is actually more durable than most fabrics and is fast drying. Along with this, polyester is great at providing resistance to harsh UV rays in a warm climate. To add to this, polyester has a great amount of water resistance, which will aid you in harsh and wet conditions.
When you're heading into the outdoors you want to be well protected from potentially hazardous conditions. Therefore, when buying the right tent, it is important to choose the right fabric before looking for comfort. You can always find both.Share
